Moving House is a legal process. That process is called conveyancing. In Northern Ireland, only solicitors can carry out conveyancing, and you’ll need to choose the right one for your needs if you want to your next sale or purchase to go smoothly.

Often sellers and purchasers have the wrong priorities when they come to instruct a solicitor. Speed and price are certainly important considerations, but a week saved here or a few pounds saved there will be of little comfort a few years later when a rushed job or cut-price service is discovered to have missed an important title defect which stops you from selling your property and moving on.
What aspects of a solicitor’s services should you consider to make an informed choice? First, choose a specialist. Conveyancing is not easy and you’ll want someone who deals with all kinds of properties and cases. You won’t want someone who isn't available to talk to you because they're at court, or at a police interview, or at a site inspection. Choose someone who specialises in conveyancing.
Secondly, make sure they're accessible. Are they happy to speak to you? If you’re going see them, are they easy to get to? Can they conduct some meetings via Zoom or Teams? Are they responsive to emails?
How do you keep updated about your case and how can you keep control? Most solicitor firms don’t have access to online updates or text notifications, and those which can do not always provide clear or sufficient information to give a complete idea of what’s happening on your case.
